The mentorship Membership

We all have someone in life who helped us.

Overview

5 days of climbing and mentorship. These days can be utilized at any location in the Northern Piedmont or Linville Gorge with some limitations on scheduling. All climbing days must be scheduled within 12 months. The 5 climbing days of the program can be utilized as part of courses that are offered by the Appalachian Climbing School, or as private days.

The idea of the Mentorship Membership is to develop a more meaningful approach to climber education. There is flexibility in the program to allow for mentees to work with a mentor for a day, then take time and space to internalize concepts on their own. Once a level of proficiency is achieved then the learning progression can continue with more mentorship. This approach allows for knowledge retention and thoughtfulness that isn’t present in continuous curricular blocks of the same number of days.

There are only 5 spaces available for the Mentorship Membership per year.

There will be an opportunity for voice and video consultation throughout the year. With up to 5 one hour voice or video calls where questions can be answered and consultations and recommendations can be provided.

You will also be able to cross pollinate with the other climbers participating in the Mentorship Membership. Think of it as built in climbing partners who are dialed in and serious about their improvement.

Audience

This program is designed for climbers who want to elevate their knowledge and experience in a real and meaningful way through hands-on training. You will be rewarded with more confidence and knowledge to handle future climbing challenges. Skills taught are principle based and transferable to many situations.

Mentees are able to utilize the days as either private weekdays or weekend days for courses.

Building Trust

The Appalachian Climbing School wants to help you achieve some big things. Wes has extensive experience mentoring other climbers through climbing, guiding, and teaching the AMGA SPI program. Wes has worked with hundreds of climbers throughout the years and helped them develop from first time climbers to being able to guide other climbers on multi pitch rock climbs.

Coming into the program with an open heart and mind will yield the best results. This program will work best for folks who are invested and show up ready to learn and also invest their own time into research and education through other outlets like educational texts and online resources.

Recommend texts include the Falcon pocket guides that have been developed in recent years. Individual suggestions will be made on a case by case basis.

Goal Setting
Participants will be helped identifying goals at the beginning of the program to work towards. This could be learning how to trad climb, gaining technical knowledge, climbing a certain route, or certain grade that they would like to climb.

Once goals are identified a mentorship plan will be formulated to meet specific goals.

Specific examples of 5 day progressions are intentionally left out of this phase. This is done to allow your wildest dreams to come out and not be influenced by an example you see here.

If during the course of the training you identify different goals then when you applied there is flexibility in the program to shift in a new direction.

Application and Cost

To apply, plan on having a 30 minute phone call to discuss the mentorship program and details about how this will benefit your climbing goals. During the call come ready with ideas for where you would like to take your climbing. All ideas are good ideas.

Costs will be discussed during the phone call. Cost is based on many factors but there is no set price. This is done to offer financial assistance to climbers that might not be able to pay full price for professional climbing instruction. You can anticipate sliding scale pricing from $1250-1975. Discounted from normal day rates of up to $2100 for 5 days of private instruction. Cost calculations could  be made by using annual income times .0375 up to the maximum amount.

Depending on the members financial situation payment per day can be arranged.
